Leadership Development
We help leaders
develop. We have facilitated leadership development with personnel
from EXXON, ARCO, British Petroleum, Alyeska Pipeline Service Company,
Alaskan Clean Seas, Ship Escort and Recovery Vessel Service, Anchorage
School District, Alaska State Department of Natural Resources, Alaska
State Prison System, Alaska State Forestry Division, Alaska State
Department of Fish and Game and many more.
How:
We do this through leadership workshops and retreats, one-on-one
coaching, establishment of mentoring programs, development of 360
feedback programs, instituting corporate wide behavioral styles
awareness (labeling behavior not people), developing early recognition
of high potentials and then creating formal programs for their development,
establishing programs that proactively help identify and develop
minority and female candidates, and more.
What is Leadership?
We recognize that leadership is very different from management...and
that both are critical. We manage programs, but lead people. Management
is about stasis, finding a "way" to do something well and then doing
it that way every time. Managers try to get things done right. Leadership
is about making sure that what we are doing is what we should be
doing. Leaders try to get the right things done.
We believe that
there are "born leaders", but that every person has the capability
to develop his or her leadership ability to the fullest.
Elements
we believe are essential for great leadership:
- Courage
- Integrity
- Empathy
- Focus
- Thick Skin
Our Leadership
Seminars/Retreats focus on these things:
- What is leadership?
An interactive lecture, experiential learning exercises, learning
from our own behavior and observations from others, drawing from
our own data base, creating our model of leadership...subject
to modification.
- Watching
a leader in action -- Bring the popcorn. This is a night at the
movies. But bring a notepad, too.
- Personal
and Professional Development--Gaining knowledge about self from
variety of resources (360 feedback, one-on-one coaching, peer
feedback, results of interviews with staff, behavioral instrumentation)
- Group Projects
-- With groups of two to many.
- Experiential
Exercises -- We learn by doing and then examining how we did it.
- Creation
of an executive development plan.
